Substance Abuse Expert meets the new NRC Requirements.
SAPAA now offers a Substance Abuse Expert training course as required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. (All SAEs must be qualified by March 31, 2010.) The course consists of a manual in a PDF format that you will download to your computer. This study manual will consist of-
Any SAE who makes determinations of fitness must be qualified to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of and clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of alcohol and controlled-substance abuse disorders;
- Demonstrate knowledge of the SAE function as it relates to the public's interests in the duties performed by the individuals who are subject to this subpart; and
- Demonstrate knowledge of Part 26 Fitness for Duty Program and any changes thereto.
SAEs must receive qualification training on the following subjects:
- Background, rationale, and scope of Part 26;
- Key drug testing requirements including specimen collection, laboratory testing, MRO review, and problems in drug testing;
- Key alcohol testing requirements, including specimen collection, the testing process, and problems in alcohol tests;
- SAE qualifications and prohibitions;
- The role of the SAE in making determinations of fitness and the return-to-duty process, including the initial evaluation, referrals for education and/or treatment, the follow-up evaluation, continuing treatment recommendations, and the follow-up testing plan;
- Procedures for SAE consultation and communication with licensees or other entities, MROs, and treatment providers;
- Reporting and recordkeeping requirements; and
- Issues that SAEs confront in carrying out their duties.
The SAE course provides everything necessary to qualify SAEs in their new role with the NRC as well as other Federal or State rules.
Cost is $295 which includes the study manual and the exam. A score of 75% is passing. If needed the exam can be taken a second time for FREE.
When you are ready to take the exam go back to the page your registered. To the right of the word register you will type in the “Login name” and “password” you registered with. Remember they are case sensitive.
The exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions, only one question is on the screen at a time. The exam is on a 1˝ hour timer. A certificate will be issued after the exam in 24-36 hours. DO NOT HIT YOUR BACK BUTTON ON YOUR BROWSER.
You cannot go back and change an answer.
